Three passes, ancient villages,
the Zanskar confluence
This trek takes you through some of the most beautiful rural landscapes in Ladakh — green barley fields, apricot trees, ancient monasteries, and dramatic mountain passes with views of the Stok and Karakoram ranges. The route starts at the famous Moonland of Lamayuru and finishes at Chilling, where the Zanskar River meets the Indus, in the village known for its skilled silversmiths. 63 km over 6 days, crossing three high passes.

Start at Lamayuru Monastery — one of the oldest and most dramatically situated monasteries in Ladakh, set against the famous Moonland terrain. Cross Prinkti La pass and walk through Shilla village before descending to Wanla. Homestay in Wanla.
Follow the trail along the riverbank through a string of small villages surrounded by green barley fields and apricot orchards. The valley is quiet and rarely visited. Homestay available in Ursi.
The trail begins to climb. Pass through Hinju village and continue up towards the base of Kongskila pass. From this day, kitchen staff and horses are recommended — the terrain becomes more demanding. Camp at Kongskila base.
Cross Kongkila Pass — one of the highest points on this trek — with panoramic views of the surrounding ranges. Descend to Sumda Doksa. Camp.
Pass through Sumda village, cross a stream, and begin the long ascent towards Lanak at the base of Dung Dung Chan La. Camp at Lanak in preparation for the final pass crossing the following morning.
The final and most rewarding day. Climb to Dung Dung Chan La with views stretching across Zanskar. Then a long descent all the way down to Chilling on the Zanskar River — the confluence where the Zanskar meets the Indus. Chilling is famous for its hereditary tradition of silversmithing. Car meets the group here.
Drive back to Leh along the dramatic Zanskar gorge road, or continue towards Srinagar depending on your onward plans. Trek ends.
